SLU researchers to look at laser treatment for acne scars
ST on Monday, January 14, 2008 ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine plan to test a special laser treatment that might improve acne scars on people with darker skin. The scars are difficult to remove. Physicians usually treat the scars by removing the surface of the skin with powerful lasers or chemical treatments. These treatments can cause discoloration for people with darker skin. Dermatologists at Saint Louis University plan a clinical trial to see if a gentler laser treatment might help. The technique would use lasers that bypass the surface of the skin and stimulate collagen growth underneath. .
Oil price tops $99 in Asia
Heating fuel demand is expected to rise as the northern hemisphere winter kicks in next month, while energy appetite from emerging markets such as China and India shows no sign of slowing, dealers said. Katie Dean, a senior economist with Australia's ANZ bank in Melbourne, said 100-dollar oil would have a major psychological impact. "The psychological impact is very significant... we are going to have to get used to oil being at elevated levels," Dean told AFP. Crude prices topped 50 dollars in 2004 amid tensions caused by the Iraq war. They climbed above 70 dollars in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf of Mexico, damaging major offshore oil installations. Despite pressure from the United States, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) opted not to raise production following a rare summit in Riyadh this month.

Tank said that hopefully through prayer they will be able to get past the ego thing. Three Six Mafia is on hand at the Grammys because they are nominated for that "UGK" song "International Players Anthem" (they have production credits on that song) and DJ Paul said he was actually with Pimp C two days before he passed. Pimp C was in L.A. that week because he was recording a song with DJ Paul. Also backstage at the Grammys was Ludacris manager Chaka Zulu who told Kendra G. that he was going to watch what he had to say because he didn't want to end up on ALLHIPHOP.COM! Well Chake Zulu...what's up! More to come with Kendra G.
Hairspray and Parade Top 2008 Olivier Nominations
The West End premiere of the Broadway musical Hairspray led nominations for the 32nd annual Laurence Olivier Awards, nabbing a record-breaking 11 in total, including Best New Musical and leading actor and actress in a musical for stars Michael Ball and Leanne Jones. At the same time, the London debut of the Jason Robert Brown musical Parade scored an impressive seven nods, leading the best-ever haul for the tiny Donmar Warehouse, which tallied 13 noms in all. Completing the best musical lineup are The Lord of the Rings, which went on to feature predictably strongly in the design categories, and The Drowsy Chaperone, a Broadway hit that flopped in London after only a few months. Stars Summer Strallen and Bob Martin were nommed for their work in the Canadian-spawned show, with Martin the lone London holdover from Drowsy's Broadway cast.

The Globe has decided to resurrect the old African-American "welfare queen" canard on the latest home mortgage crisis ("Broker's clients detail web of dashed dreams," Jan. 20). I see it as an outrageous exploitation by the rich and powerful of the poor, mostly African-Americans, and other minorities and their communities. Did you know that African-Americans and other minorities who do honestly qualify for a mortgage generally pay more? BWB. Borrowing While Black. This same criminally inflated real estate bubble happened 20 years ago and caused the collapse of the savings and loan industry. But instead of this experience informing the politicians, who raked in the campaign contributions, or the media, who lapped up the advertising dollars, it only informed the criminal conspirators, who were more brazen this time than the last, making bad loans to desperate working people who lost confidence in the rental market.

He first picked up a guitar when he was a child and was proficient before his age hit double figures. By 14, he was touring Germany and Holland with his Uncle Chuck's rock'n'roll band. Their usual guitarist couldn't make it and Hawley's father, Dave, pushed Hawley Jnr forward. Hawley Snr, however, hadn't got the full story regarding the venues they would be playing."Chuck had told them we were playing theatres," says Hawley. "The first gig was a strip club in a Dutch steel town. The joint had a revolving stage with a curtain across the middle. We played behind the curtain while the girl took her kit off in front of all the dirty old men. Then the stage would revolve and we would play some rock'n'roll to these blokes who were ignoring us. After 15 minutes, the next girl would come on and the stage would revolve again.
