A perfect of a different variety

Super Bowl 42 is an instant classic.

As I mentioned in an earlier, this is why you can't underestimate the importance of just MAKING the playoffs. The Giants have now won 11 games in a row away from home and yet probably can't wait to get back.

Two of the last three Super Bowls have been won by a 5 seed or lower.

In a game filled with little to no highlights in the first three quarters, the fourth quarter raised the heart rate at an increasingly rapid pace. Three lead changes in the final few minutes, capped off by two touchdowns, including clutch drive by Eli Manning in the final minute.

The perfect season is still to be had, and this game proved just how hard it is to pull off. As much momentum and respect as the Giants brought into this game, given the (literal) road they had to travel to get to Arizona, it was still almost impossible to see them winning this game.

DermTech, Stiefel To Study Genes Involved In Acne

DermTech, Stiefel Laboratories will work together using DermTech's patented EGIR technology and proprietary gene expression assays to identify and further understand the genes involved in causing acne.It is envisioned that data from the feasibility study may be used by Stiefel Laboratories in the development of targeted products to treat this widespread skin condition."We are very pleased to initiate this study with Stiefel, a global powerhouse in the development of focused, next-generation dermatology products," said George Schwartz, CEO, DermTech. "Using our EGIR technology, a painless method of collecting RNA from the epidermis and identifying biomarkers of interest, we are confident that we will be able to help confirm and identify the molecular causes of acne.""Acne has long been regarded as a nuisance condition but for a patient who suffers from frequent outbreaks or chronic blemishes, it is a major source of concern," said Gavin Corcoran, M.D., Senior Vice President, Global Research and Development for Stiefel Laboratories.

Police pursue leads in Rowan student's death

Five days after the fatal beating of a Rowan University student, police continue to interview potential witnesses and obtain tips from an anonymous tipline.

A $50,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people involved in the Saturday night attack that killed Donald "Donnie" Farrell, a 19-year-old business major from Boonton Township, Morris County.

At least four men stopped to ask Farrell for directions to a party shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Before he could turn to Beau Rivage, the apartment complex across Bowe Boulevard where he lived, at least one man punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The teenager died Sunday from a ruptured blood vessel in his neck. The blow to his neck, either a kick or a punch, police say, ruptured the right vertebral artery, which carries blood to the brain.

The level of activity or stress that provokes the angina attack is somewhat predictable, and the pattern changes only slowly. Instead of appearing gradually, unstable angina may first appear as a very severe episode or as frequently recurring bouts of angina. Or, an established stable pattern of angina may change sharply; it may by provoked by far less exercise than in the past, or it may appear at rest. In 1997 429,000 hospital discharges were patients with unstable angina. Although it causes few deaths, unstable angina precedes myocardial infarction in 20% of cases and usually provides an opportunity to intervene before irreversible damage is caused. Effective identification and treatment of unstable angina patients may protect against heart attack and death. In addition, improved cardiovascular function can lead to a better quality of life and successful treatment can also control pain associated with this syndrome.
