Senate Poised to Capitulate to Cheney’s Fear-Mongering

Although Cheney touted these companies as patriotic partners in the administration's "war on terror," they are breaking several U.S. laws, including FISA itself, Title III, the Communications Act, and the Stored Communications Act, as well as the First and Fourth Amendments to the Constitution. Indeed, as the Electronic Frontier Foundation put it, "the real heroes are the companies that refused to help [the administration], like Verizon Wireless" and Quest Communications.

Cheney quoted Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who described the need for these companies to defend against litigation as "an enormous burden." What he really meant is that defending the roughly 40 pending lawsuits is cutting into their enormous profits.

The House of Representatives passed a bill without immunity for the telecoms.

HRC shop hit with armed robber

An unidentified gunman on Jan. 18 bound and blind-folded an employee at the Human Rights Campaign’s Action Center and Store near Dupont Circle after hitting him repeatedly in the head with a pistol and forcing him to turn over money from a cash register and safe, according to a D.C. police report. Sgt. Tania Bell, supervisor of the police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU), which is investigating the incident, said the crime appears to be a random holdup and no evidence exists to indicate the gunman targeted the store because it is a gay business. "There’s no evidence to suggest this was a hate crime," Bell said. No other employees or customers were present at the HRC store at 1633 Connecticut Ave., N.W., at the time the gunman entered about 7 p.m., on Friday, Jan.

Toddlers Medicated for Bipolar Disorder in Record Numbers

While I am convinced that the hormonal surge of puberty triggered my bipolar, I realize that everyone is different. (But I will be paying close attention to my own daughter when she hits puberty in a few years.)

However, there is no way in HELL, Heaven or on God's green earth that I would EVER give psychiatric drugs to a child, much less a toddler. In my book, that is either just sicko, lazy parenting or parents who meekly obey a doctor's orders without questioning.

These are some serious drugs and their effects don't just stop when you stop taking the meds. One of my meds made me lazy and lethargic and was so subtle that it took me 3 years to figure it out and trace the problem back to when I started that particular drug. I've been off that drug now for about 6 months and while things have improved somewhat, I am still not back to the way I was before adding that drug to my daily regimen.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears: Street Walker seems to be focused on reviving her career and spent the weekend at the Millenium Dance Studio rehearsing for her next video. Her father Jamie came along to offer moral support, according to OK! Magazine:

"Her focus and clarity are noticeable," says one fortunate witness who had the chance to look on as Brit worked on her routine for her upcoming video. "Almost like the old Britney we've known and loved."
Brit's dad arrived at Millennium to watch his daughter rehearse before they headed back home together. "Before Jamie got there, she seemed to be getting anxious," one witness tells OK!. "And then he arrived and her mood changed."

OK! also reports Jamie Spears is doing some major house cleaning. He fired Britney's business manager Howard Grossman who allegedly has ties to Sam Lutfi:

According to court documents released Friday, Commissioner Goetz ordered Grossman to turn over "all documents, records ands assets relating to Britney Spears" to Jamie Spears and co-conservator Andrew Wallet.

The lady with the golden pipes, Christina Aguilera, has been working on a signature scent to sell to the masses, but it's not going too well, according the latest market research.

The Daily Mirror says that Xtina's new fragrance, aptly titled Simply Christina, has not been getting the best reviews from recent testers. Consumers are calling it "tacky" and a member of one London panel said, "The packaging looked cheap and we went away unimpressed."

I realize the powerhouse has recently changed her image from sexy little vixen to mature glamour puss, but maybe she should have just stuck with her old look and named the perfume "Dirrty" -- then nobody would be disappointed.
