Giants Are All Talk, No Action

As a transplanted Canadian, I speak from experience when telling you that you should be thrilled at the chance to get Rios. He is about to explode. He's got the speed to swipe 25-35 bags (the jays put the stop sign on everyone). He is without a doubt, one of the five best defensive RF in baseball, and has been terrific in CF (his natural position) whenever he has played there. He is an instinctive baserunnner, he has improving plate discipline, and legit power. You guys are such unqualified homers, talking about Cain and Lincecum as if they are already carving their busts in Cooperstown. They are both very intriguing young pitchers with upside, no doubt, but ease up on the rhetoric. I have watched a ton of games of both teams, and this looks like a trade that could help both teams. I have very baseball-knowledgeable friends in Toronto that can't believe the Jays are contemplating giving up Rios (a 2-time allstar) in this trade for a unproven pitcher with a troubling delivery.

How money and policing are rebuilding East Hills

Not every resident is pleased with this zero-tolerance approach.

Sharon Fields, who attended the recent agency-head meeting, complains that security is heavy-handed. But she herself was arrested in October by Pittsburgh police.

According to an incident report, officers had approached a young man in a hoodie on a warm night because they thought he was suspicious. Ms. Fields started swearing at them about harassing the man, police said, and ended up spending 12 hours in jail on a disorderly conduct charge.

Some residents also complain about "shoddy" construction of the units and chafe at the regulations imposed by management.

But Ms. Baylock, of CT Management, says the complaints are the result of a lack of enforcement in years past.

Brier woman reportedly abducted, quickly released

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- Detectives are on the hunt for the man who allegedly forced a woman into his car on Wednesday night. Sheriff's spokesperson Rebecca hover said a 42-year-old Brier woman was out walking near 212th Street SW and Poplar Way around 8 p.m. when a man pulled up in his car and asked if she needed a ride. The woman said she did not and kept walking. Several minutes later, the same man walked up to the woman, grabbed her and pushed her into his parked car nearby, Hover said. As the man began driving off, the woman managed to open the passenger door. The man then stopped the car and told her to get out. The woman got out of the car safely. The man never displayed a weapon during the incident, detectives said, and there have not been reports of similar incidents in the area.

Britney Spears' Extreme Make-Under

Britney Spears showed off the disappointing results of an intensive home make-over session during a trip to Millenium dance studio over the weekend.

Last week, it was widely reported that celebrity colourist and Extreme Makeover consultant, Kim Vo, spent 4 hours at the troubled singer’s L.A. home working on her neglected tresses.

However, judging by Brit’s bedraggled appearance on Saturday, 4 hours wasn’t nearly enough time to tease the pop wreck’s weave into something resembling a decent hairstyle.

Sporting ripped fish-nets, tacky red hotpants, a stained top and her usual bedraggled mop, braless Brit hit Millenium with dad Jamie for numerous cigarette breaks, punctuated by a spot of dance practice.

People quoted Vo as saying of his Brit assignment: "Britney needed some help with her extensions and wanted to talk about a new color.

News | Is John McCain a War Hero?

He intends to post them on the Web, where they'll join a pile of documents that, Willbanks insists, proves McCain collaborated with the Communists during his five years as a POW.

Willbanks has a paying job, as a bus driver for the City of Mesa. But he was recently reassigned to drive an adult day-care van. He's excited about it; the older people will want to talk about war history, and he can give them packets of information he keeps on McCain. He's already given out 15 or so.

"I give them a packet, and they come back and say, 'Well, that goddamn traitor,'" he says.

The "documents" include an article McCain wrote for U.S. News & World Report in 1973, upon his release from prison camp. In the article, McCain admits that he--like many POWs--confessed to war crimes under physical and emotional duress.

Love requires dealing with reality vs. fantasy

This time of year, it is nearly impossible not to think about love.

The symbols of love are everywhere: red roses, the sacred flower of Venus, the goddess of love; hearts, the representation of the center of emotion; Cupid, with his bow and arrow.

Ah, Cupid! Now there is a story of love.

He was the son of Venus and possessed the ability to cause people to fall in love by shooting them with his magical arrows. According to Roman mythology, Cupid fell in love with a mortal maiden named Psyche. Cupid's mother, who was jealous of Psyche's beauty, forbade her daughter-in-law to look upon her husband.

Of course, Psyche couldn't resist and finally took a peek at her handsome husband. For punishment she was given some difficult challenges to perform. The last one piqued her curiosity so much that she opened the box she was carrying.

On Native Ground

The Administration's reaction to this assessment was to downplay the report and try to come up with alternative ways of measuring progress.

Congress will be told that violence is down in Iraq, even though the first six months of 2007 have been the deadliest for U.S. troops and the civil unrest that plagues most of Iraq has not abated.

Congress will be told that it really isn't that big a deal that the Iraqi parliament can't agree on oil revenue sharing, holding provincial elections or de-Baathification of the government.

Congress will be told that the Administration was unable to foresee that the benchmarks set for the Iraqi government would not be met - just like it couldn't foresee jetliners being flown into skyscrapers or that the levees in New Orleans would fail. Besides, those benchmarks were unrealistic, anyway.
